Donald M. Strauser

FAIRMONT – Services for Donald M. Strauser, 87, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 6 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, with full military honors by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County VFW Post 1222 immediately following the service at the funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date. Don passed away Sunday morning, March 9, 2014, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth, Minn. Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Lakeview Funeral Home. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Donald Merlin Strauser was born Aug. 6, 1926, at his aunt’s home in Winnebago, Minn., the son of Thomas Henry and Clara (Wing) Strauser. He attended country school in Martin County, Minn. On Sept. 1, 1948, Don was united in marriage to Evelyn Dorothy Kloeck at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winnebago, Minn. Together, the couple made their home on a farm near Granada, Minn., where they lived until moving to Fairmont in 1989. To this union five children were born: Dale, Patricia, Bruce, Jeffrey and Michele. Don farmed for many years and ran the Hi-Boy Spraying business. Following his move off the farm to Fairmont in 1989, he began working part time for Crop Production. He also ran the Huntley Grocery Store. In 2009, Don officially retired. Don was a member of the American Legion for 36 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing cards, fishing, bowling and playing golf. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him and called him their friend.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Evelyn Strauser of Blue Earth, Minn.; children, Dale Strauser and his wife Linda of Granada, Minn., Patricia Johnson of Amboy, Minn., Bruce Strauser of Lacey, Wash., Jeffrey Strauser and his wife Kitty of Marion, Iowa, and Michele Ehlert of Fairmont, Minn.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great- grandchild; a sister, Joyce Roe and her husband Maurice of Winnebago, Minn.; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Clara Strauser; a sister, Geraldine; and two brothers, Thomas Strauser and LeRoy Strauser.
