Local teenager dies in rollover

BLUE EARTH – A 16-year-old boy was killed in a rollover accident Thursday night, according to the Blue Earth Police Department.

Services for Ethan Rorman of Blue Earth are being handled by Patton Funeral Home & Cremation Service.

School officials confirmed Friday the boy was a sophomore at Blue Earth Area High School.

Law enforcement was called to the scene at 10 p.m. Thursday on Leland Parkway, where a 2003 Ford Ranger had rolled near the westbound rest area.

Rorman was not wearing a seatbelt, according to police. He was transported by ambulance to United Hospital District, where he was later pronounced dead.

Two male passengers, ages 16 and 15, were reportedly wearing their seatbelts and escaped without injury. Neither of the boys have been identified.

The accident remains under investigation by Minnesota State Patrol. Assisting at the scene were Faribault County Sheriff’s Office, and Blue Earth Fire and Ambulance.

The school brought in a grief counselor, seven or eight pastors from a ministerial association, and social workers from the district’s other campuses to be available if students want to talk, said Rich Schneider, principal at Blue Earth Area High School.

Students were allowed to congregate in a room set up for tributes to the boy, Schneider added.

“We tried to be flexible with our day,” he said.
