Feds continue to waste money, run up the debt

Government social engineers often are confident they can pull Americans’ strings to persuade us to behave as the bureaucrats desire, if only enough taxpayers’ money is spent. A new study on $800 million in waste proves them wrong – again.

Aware of declining marriage rates and increases in divorce, federal officials began the Health Marriage Initiative in 2000. Since then, they have spent about $800 million trying to convince people to get – and stay – married.

Researchers at Bowling Green State University in Ohio found the HMI hasn’t worked.

Even in states where HMI spending was highest, marriage is less popular now than 20 years ago.

But the bureaucrats knew years ago their attempt at social engineering was a flop. Yet they continued frittering away taxpayers’ money. No wonder the national debt is more than $17.2 trillion.
