Congratulations to Laverne Elmore for receiving his 11-gallon pin and to Dar Warner on his 3-gallon pin.

A special thank you to all the volunteers: John McDonald and Kyle Redenius with the Sentence to Service troops; Arlys Meyer, Delores Bursow, and Dave and Jo Kropp for helping with the canteen; Presentation College student volunteers Danielle Roben, Alecia Nelson, Shelby Fanton, Barb Anderson, Kathryn Meyer, Callie Fransen, Bridget Trio, Brittney Cornick, Lindsey Drescher, Aggie Ergette and Danika Stindtman for the canteen and greeter help.

A special thank you to Byron and Becky Phillips for their gift, and Holiday Inn for the fine facilities and great staff.

Severe winter weather across much of the country throughout January forced the cancellation of about 770 American Red Cross blood drives, resulting in more than 25,000 uncollected blood and platelet donations. Blood products were distributed to hospitals as quickly as donations came in.

On average, the Red Cross must collect about 15,000 units of blood every day for patients at about 2,700 hospitals and transfusion centers across the country. The number of cancellations in January was the equivalent of the Red Cross having to shut down its national operations for more than an entire day. The need is constant.

The next blood drive is June 10-12. For appointments, please contact Mark Johnson at (507) 236-8888.
