The United grapple by Red Bulls at section

GRANITE FALLS – The Class AA, No. 9-ranked Dawson-Boyd/ Lac qui Parle/Montevideo United wrestling lineup recorded five falls during its first six matches against the Fairmont/Martin County West Red Bulls to fuel an eventual 51-21 Section 3AA Team Meet semifinal victory on Friday night in Granite Falls.

The Red Bulls ended the team portion of their season with a 13-5 record.

Elijah Gronewold, No. 8-ranked 152-pounder Joe Weber, Kory Brown and Luis Figueroa each delivered points for the Red Bulls during the postseason dual meet against The United.

Trailing 33-0, Gronewold stepped the canvas and delivered FHS/MCW’s first team points via a fall over Mason Kwilinski in 2:12 during 145-pound action.

Weber then delivered three points by outdueling Mitchell Kwilinski by an 8-3 decision at 152 pounds.

Brown, who was ranked periodically throughout the season, and Figueroa later generated back-to-back falls at 195 and 220 pounds, respectively. Brown stuck Markus Kranz in 1:24, while Figueroa pressed David Nelson’s shoulders to the mat in 4:48.

Peyton Mortenson staked The United to a quick 6-0 lead by pinning Christian Hugget in 2:40 at 106 pounds before DBLQPM teammate Donald Bothun tacked on three more team points via a narrow 3-1 decision over Collin Steuber at 113.

No. 8-ranked 120-pounder Jordan Bothun then pinned Chris Ettesvold in 1:15 at 120 before Bailey Eickhoff earned the slap of the mat in 2:37 over Mario Maldonado during 126-pound action.

Matthew Henriksen and Logan Knoshal then extended The United’s lead to 33-0 by producing pins at 132 and 138, respectively. Henriksen downed Christopher Krenz in 3:30, while Knoshal pinned Levi Bulfer in 3:20.

After Gronewold and Weber generated the Red Bulls’ first team points, No. 9-ranked 152-pounder Keith Abraham moved to 160 pounds to net a 5-2 decision over FHS/MCW’s Tanner Lange.

No. 9-ranked 170-pounder Joe Weeding of The United then pinned Harley Luhmann in 3:19 before DBLQPM teammate Anthony Quigley notched in a fall in 1:24 over Nathan Gillis at 182 pounds.

Brown and Figueroa then delivered back-to-back falls for the Red Bulls before The United’s Jake Lehmann squared off against FHS/MCW’s Adrian Moscoffian at 285. The No. 10-ranked Lehmann outlasted Moscoffian by a 3-0 decision at heavyweight to close out The United’s sectional team semifinal triumph.

Fairmont/Martin County West competes in the Section 3AA Individual Meet at 5 p.m. next Friday in Luverne.
