TML downs Madelia; BEA posts win
TRUMAN – Forward Sam Geistfeld erupted for another game-high double-double performance to power the Truman/Martin Luther BluejayKnights to a 68-46 victory over the Madelia Blackhawks on Monday night during opening-round Valley Conference Showcase action in Truman.
Geistfeld scored 21 points and garnered 17 rebounds to complement four assists, while teammate Jackson Maloney netted 17 points and three steals.
Adam Neumann contributed nine points and five assists to TML’s winning performance.
Derrick VanHee tallied 15 points to pace Madelia, while Jack Bergeman chipped in nine points.
The BluejayKnights scorched the nets on 14 of 21 shots from 2-point range for 67 percent, while hitting 10 of 30 attempts from 3-point distance. TML also made 10 of 17 free throws.
The Blackhawks connected on 12 of 26 shots from 2-point territory, 5 of 19 from behind the bonus arc and 7 of 14 at the charity stripe.
Truman/Martin Luther (10-12) travels to East Chain School on Thursday night for a 7:30 p.m. second-round Showcase game against Granada-Huntley-East Chain.
Blue Earth Area 68, Medford 51 – Center Luke Monson collected a game-high 27 points to engineer the Bucs’ 17-point nonconference win over the Tigers on Monday night in Medford.
Monson also pulled down seven rebounds, while teammate Derek Johnson delivered 16 points.
Quinn Huisman neared double-double territory by scoring 10 points to go with eight rebounds for BEA, while Brandon Olson chipped in seven points.
Luke Peterson netted 17 points to top Medford, while teammate Lucas Cronin chipped in 12 points.
The Bucs made 10 of 16 free throws on the game, while the Tigers hit 5 of 12 at the line.
Blue Earth Area (9-11, 4-5 South Central) plays host to Waseca tonight.
Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 68, Granada-Huntley-East Chain 56 – Kyle Fisel delivered a game-high 23 points to steer the Bulldogs to a 12-point triumph over the Mustangs on Monday night during first-round Valley Conference Showcase action in Janesville.
Ricky Johnson supplied 21 points for JWP, while teammate Sawyer Gahler contributed 14 points to the winning effort.
Trent Stensland netted 18 points to top a balanced GHEC scoring attack, while Logan Pytleski and Josh Johanson supplied 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Johanson, along with Jared Green and Josh Wolter, each distributed three assists, while Ryan Shumski delivered eight points and six rebounds.
The Mustangs made 17 of 32 shots from 2-point range, 6 of 20 behind the 3-point arc and only 4 of 15 at the free throw line.
The Bulldogs connected on 22 of 31 shots from 2-point territory for a blistering 71 percent, while hitting 3 of 12 from 3-point distance and 17 of 31 at the line.
Granada-Huntley-East Chain (7-11) plays host to Truman/Martin Luther on Thursday night at East Chain School.
St. Clair 67, Martin County West 45 – Tyler Fandrich tossed in a game-best 20 points to pace a balanced scoring attack as the Cyclones twisted past the Mavericks, 67-45, during first-round Valley Conference Showcase action Monday night in St. Clair.
Ryan Kruse supplied 13 points for St. Clair, while teammates Austin Nagel and Brandon Freitag each chipped in 10 points.
Cordell Weber netted 14 points to top the Mavericks’ effort, while Alex Biehn tallied nine points.
Jake Faber neared double-double territory by scoring eight points to complement 12 boards for MCW, while Jake Sinn pulled down seven rebounds.
The Mavericks hit 16 of 51 field goals, including 3 of 19 from behind the arc, and made 10 of 17 free throws.
The Cyclones made 16 of 31 shots from 2-point range, 8 of 26 behind the bonus arc and 11 of 13 at the charity stripe.
Martin County West (11-9) plays host to Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial on Thursday night in second-round Showcase action in Trimont.
