No. 10 FHS deals loss to Luverne

LUVERNE – Kayla Lardy and Kristen Campe combined equally for 34 points to power the Class 2A, No. 10-ranked Fairmont Cardinals to a 61-38 triumph over the Luverne Cardinals during nonconference basketball action Monday night in Luverne.

The 6-foot-1 Lardy neared double-double territory by scoring 17 points to complement nine rebounds, while Campe tallied 17 points to go with four assists.

Sierra Schultz produced 10 points, a game-best seven assists and three steals for the Cardinals, while Courtney Mosloski supplied seven points, seven rebounds and three steals.

Haley Harder and Emily Kim contributed five and three points, respectively, for Fairmont.

The visiting Cardinals connected on 19 of 38 shots from 2-point range for 50 percent, 6 of 11 from behind the 3-point arc for 55 percent and 5 of 14 at the free throw line.

Fairmont (19-3, 8-0 South Central) travels to St. James on Friday night for a 7:30 p.m. conference game.

Larissa Becker scored 11 points to help Fairmont edge Luverne, 27-25, during B-squad action Monday night in Luverne.

Marisa Nelson delivered seven points and four rebounds for the visiting Cardinals, while teammate Alexis Bass supplied four points and eight rebounds.

Luverne slipped by Fairmont, 31-25, during C-squad action Monday night in Luverne.

Claire Cutler delivered eight points for the visiting Cardinals, Alli Lardy netted six points and seven boards, while Brooke Hunwardsen added five points, three steals and three assists.

Blue Earth Area 59, Le Sueur-Henderson 47 – Jenna Stevermer poured in a game-best 27 points to propel the Bucs to a 12-point non-league triumph over the Giants on Monday night in Blue Earth.

Stevermer, who also pulled down seven rebounds, connected on 5 of 10 shots from 3-point range to help fuel her top scoring total.

Kaitlyn Olsen delivered 16 points for Blue Earth Area, Taylor Grandgenett tallied eight points, while Paige Darrington hauled in nine boards.

The Bucs made 13 of 42 shots from 2-point distance, hit 7 of 21 attempts from 3-point range and 12 of 26 from the free throw line.

Blue Earth Area (7-9) plays host to St. Peter on Friday night.

Manson-Northwest Webster 57, North Union 32 – The Cougars clawed the Warriors by 25 points during nonconference action Monday night in Armstrong.

Madison Irmiter delivered 11 points and garnered six rebounds to top North Union, while Alexis Valvick scored six.

Madison Bollig pulled down seven rebounds for the Warriors, while Peyton Oleson pocketed three steals.

The Warriors made 9 of 27 shots from 2-point territory, 2 of 12 from behind the bonus arc and 8 of 15 from the charity stripe.

North Union (10-5) hosts West Hancock on Thursday night in Armstrong.

Valley Showcase

Martin County West 62, St. Clair 28 – Taryn Tumbleson produced 17 points to top a balanced Maverick scoring effort en route to a 34-point victory over the Cyclones during Valley Showcase action Monday in Sherburn.

Tumbleson also distributed four assists and made three steals for MCW, while teammate Kate Thiesse generated a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds to go with three steals.

Reilly Geistfeld netted 15 points and seven boards for the Mavericks, while teammate McKenna Taylor delivered seven rebounds, six blocked shots, four assists and three steals.

The Mavericks made 25 of 54 shots from the field and 8 of 15 at the free throw line.

Martin County West (16-1, 10-0 Valley) faces Granada-Huntley-East Chain in second-round Showcase action at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night at East Chain School.

Hanna Geistfeld made 9 of 10 free throws to fuel her 11-point performance to top Martin Luther, while Alexis Brummond delivered 10 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Kristi Oberdieck pulled down a game-best 12 rebounds for the Knights, while Amber Schulz grabbed six boards.

Martin Luther made 16 of 47 shots from 2-point range and 16 of 23 at the free throw line.

Martin Luther (7-9) travels to Alden on Thursday for second-round Showcase action against Alden-Conger.
