Cardinals collar the Bulldogs
LE SUEUR – Brooke Lemon and Taylor Nuss each produced two goals and two assists to help the Fairmont Area Cardinals collar the St. Peter/Le Sueur-Henderson Bulldogs, 8-6, during South Central Conference hockey action Friday night in Le Sueur.
The Cardinals built a 3-2 lead after one completed period, with Lemon finding teammate Kelsy Junkermeier with a pass for the game’s equalizer at 1-all.
Trailing 2-1, Lemon continued her role as distributor by finding Tieryn Arens for the tying goal. Lemon then swung a one-goal edge to the Cardinals by converting Nuss’ assist into a goal.
The Bulldogs knotted the game at 3-all during the middle segment.
Nuss then delivered a pair of goals during the third period to keep the Cardinals in the driver’s seat at 4-3 and 5-4, respectively. Nuss hammered home Jalyssa Wilson’s assist to account for Fairmont Area’s fourth score before later converting another Wilson pass for the visitors’ fifth goal. Wilson found the Bulldogs’ net on an unassisted goal to swing a 6-5 advantage to the Cardinals.
Lemon and Nuss combined to extend Fairmont Area’s lead to 7-5 as Lemon lit the lamp off an assist from Nuss. Myah Lytle later delivered a key insurance goal off Wilson’s third helper of the game to seal the Cardinals’ 8-6 triumph.
Fairmont Area (9-9, 1-3 SCC) travels to Marshall on Monday night for a rescheduled nonconference game.
