Edmund C. Hinrichs

FAIRMONT – A funeral service for Edmund C. Hinrichs, 87, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont.

Edmund passed away Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 22, 2014, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Jan 26, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Edmund Carl Hinrichs was born Dec. 7, 1926, in Iowa County, Iowa, the son of Christian and Eliese (Wacker) Hinrichs. Ed attended St. John’s Lutheran Parochial School through the eighth grade. He attended high school and graduated from Guernsey High School in Guernsey, Iowa. He went to Concordia College in River Forest, Ill., before teaching at a parochial school in Decatur, Ill. On July 6, 1952, Edmund married Dorothy Keller in Victor, Iowa. They lived in Decatur, Ill., South Branch, Minn., and Adkins, Iowa. When Edmund and Dorothy lived in South Branch, Edmund obtained his master’s degree in education at Mankato State University. In 1967, they moved to Fairmont where Edmund taught school at St. Paul’s Lutheran School and was the church organist and directed the church choir. Dorothy passed away in 1994 and later that year Edmund married Ruth Woodring in Fairmont. Edmund was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where he served as an Elder and belonged to the Republican Party. He enjoyed being involved with his church, playing and listening to music, traveling, watching sports and being with his family.

Those who will cherish his memory include his wife, Ruth Hinrichs of Fairmont; two sons, Mark Hinrichs and his wife, Marlene, of Los Alamos, N.M., and Thomas Hinrichs of Fairmont; daughter, Annette Boehnke and her husband, Dale, of Lewisville, Texas; grandchildren, Jeffrey Hinrichs (Qi), Peter Hinrichs (Ashley), Benjamen Hinrichs (Erica), Elizabeth Champaign (Robert), and Emily Kardos (Scott); great-grandchildren, Lillian, Isobel, Levi, Luke, Miles and Shae Hinrichs, Ethan and Natalie Champaign; brother, Gerhardt Hinrichs (Jan) of Marengo, Iowa; sister-in-law, Vivian Hinrichs; step children, David Woodring (Margo) of Colorado Springs, Colo., Donald Woodring (Elaine) of Denver, Colo., Daniel Woodring (Jinger) of Fairmont, and Diana Neumann (Rev. Mark) of Lakeland Shores, Minn.; 21 step-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Christian and Eliese Hinrichs and his first wife, Dorothy Hinrichs, Edmund was preceded in death by three brothers, Reinhard, Christian and Bertrand Hinrichs; sisters, Berniece Maas (Herbert), and Elizabeth Koehn (Ervin).

Memorials are preferred to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School or the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Foundation.
