FAIRMONT – A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Alice Jones, 88, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont, Minn., with Father Peter Schuster as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont, Minn.

Mary Alice passed away on Thursday evening, Jan. 16, 2014, at Goldfinch Estates in Fairmont, Minn. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, and one hour prior to the services Saturday, all at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 901 S. Prairie Ave in Fairmont, Minn.

Mary Alice was born Aug. 3, 1925, in Kansas City, Kan., to Homer and Marie (Hillers) Morton. She attended school there. After school, she moved to Phoenix to live with her aunt and worked as a telephone operator. While in Arizona she met Major Jones. They were married in Phoenix, Ariz., on July 15, 1944. They were married for 67 years before Major’s death in 2011. Mary Alice was a long term Sears employee. She enjoyed camping, bowling, reading and spending time with her grandchildren. After retirement, Mary Alice and Major would winter in Mesa, Ariz. They were volunteers for many years at the Phoenix Open. Mary Alice was presented the Dick Rolls Memorial Award for volunteerism in 2000 at the Phoenix Open.

Mary Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Major; her son, Arthur; her parents; her brother, Roy; her sister, Margaret; and other relatives.

She is survived by her son, Richard and his wife Jeanne of Rochester, Minn.; five grandchildren and spouses; nine great-grandchildren; her brother, Ray Morton and his wife Mary of Cameron, Mo.; and other relatives and friends.

Memorials to Mayo Clinic Alzheimer’s Research Center in Rochester, Minn.; St. John Vianney Catholic Church; Lakeside Cemetery; or a charity of donor’s choice are preferred in lieu of flowers.
