Blue Earth Area grapplers pin loss on Waseca

BLUE EARTH – The Blue Earth Area Bucs wrestling team held the Waseca Bluejays to just one pin as it steamrolled to a 64-5 South Central Conference dual-meet victory on Friday night at Pemberton Auditorium in Blue Earth.

The Bucs recorded eight pins to fuel the team triumph, with the first coming at 120 pounds from Matt Goodrich.

Goodrich pinned Waseca’s Noah Schmidt in 50 seconds to stake the Bucs to a 12-0 lead.

Adam Legred and Zach Buseman each claimed decision during the 106- and 113-pound matches to open up the competition for the Bucs. Legred downed Justin Sampson 6-2, before Buseman outlasted Lucas Hagel in a high-scoring clash, 12-11.

Camden Bowers followed Goodrich’s pin with a 9-7 win over Beau Milbrett at 126 pounds.

Alec Huber needed just 48 seconds in the second period of the 132-pound match to pin Avery Emmans to give the Bucs a 21-0 edge.

Mike Ankeny twisted away from Waseca’s Tristan Hoy for the 4-2 win at 138 pounds, before the Bucs’ pin parade got started.

Jordan Stelter got the Bucs’ falls rolling by pinning Barry Bomsta in 2:41 at 145 pounds, before Luke Schavey needed just 30 seconds to pin Lucas Maxon at 152 pounds.

Gus Phillips one-upped Schavey, scoring his pin in 20 seconds over Jack Milbrett at 160 pounds. David Franta then pinned Marco Ruiz in 1:02 during 170-pound action.

The Bluejays were then deducted a point for unsportsmanlike conduct, making it 58-(-1).

Kolt Gorg responded with a pin of Levi Kuschel in 1:36 at 182 pounds for the Bucs.

Jacob Johnson nearly earned a technical fall at 195 pounds, claiming a 17-6 win over Jimmy Ebertowski.

Dylan Winegar then earned the Bluejays’ only win of the night, pinning Jared Armon at 220 pounds in 2:30.

Class A, No. 5-ranked 285-pounder Martin Granados ended the meet in the Bucs’ favor by pinning Sam Sierra in just 12 seconds to cap the victory.

Blue Earth Area travels to wrestle in the Estherville/Lincoln Central Invitational at 9 a.m. today in Estherville, Iowa.
