Sporting events called off, reslated

Just one glance at The Weather Channel’s forecast for south central Minnesota for Thursday – limited driving visibility, an overnight low temperature of 2 below zero, snow flurries and wind gusts up to 55 mph – and the combination translates into the postponements of area sporting events.

Nearly every school district in the southwestern and south-central portions of Minnesota were not in session on Thursday, creating massive rescheduling projects for area athletic directors.

Here’s a list of the area’s varsity sporting events that were postponed and their rescheduled dates:

The Fairmont Cardinals boys basketball team will hit the road to Waseca tonight for a 7:30 p.m. South Central Conference clash with the Class 2A, No. 10-ranked Bluejays.

The Martin County West Mavericks girls hoopsters will travel to East Chain School tonight to square off against the Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman Mustangs in a 7:30 p.m. Valley Conference tipoff.

The Blue Earth Area Bucs wrestling lineup will play host to the Waseca Bluejays in a South Central Conference dual meet at 7 p.m. tonight at Pemberton Auditorium in Blue Earth.

The Fairmont Area Cardinals girls hockey team will make the trek to Marshall to face the Tigers in a 7 p.m. face-off at Marshall-Lockwood Motors Ice Arena on Monday, Jan. 20.

The Blue Earth Area Bucs gymnasts travel to Waseca for a South Central Conference dual meet on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

The Martin County Area Magic gymnastics lineup hits the road to the Armory in St. Peter for a South Central Conference dual meet on Monday, Jan. 27.

The Fairmont/Martin County West Red Bulls wrestling squad will play host to a triangular with St. Peter and River Valley, starting at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, at Cardinal Gym in Fairmont.

The Fairmont Area Cardinals boys hockey team will play host to the St. Peter/Le Sueur-Henderson Bulldogs in a South Central Conference ice match-up at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at Martin County Arena.
