Mary ‘Giny’ Johnson
FAIRMONT – Funeral services for Mary “Giny” Johnson, 78, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at Shepherd Of The Lakes Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Inurnment will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Giny passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 9, 2014, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are preferred to Fairmont area nursing homes or to United Hands Hospice.
Mary Virginia (Bohrer) Johnson was born Feb. 6, 1935, in Kasota, Minn., the daughter of Joseph and Helena (Ewert) Bohrer. She received her education at Mankato West High School and was a member of the very first graduating class from Mankato West High School. In 1957, Giny was united in marriage to Richard Hennager in Austin, Minn. The couple resided in the Mankato area. This union was blessed with four children. Giny and Richard shared 15 years together before Richard passed away in 1972. In 1978, Giny was united in marriage to Donald Johnson in St. Peter, Minn. The couple resided in Fairmont and then Spring Valley, Minn., before later returning to Fairmont. Giny and Donald shared 16 years together before Donald passed away in 1994. Giny worked at various places as a bookkeeper throughout the years including Kato Sanitation and Ziegler-Cat Company. She was also the city clerk in Cleveland, Minn. Giny and Don would later own and operate “Mother’s Place” in Spring Valley before their retirement in 1993. She was a member of Shepherd Of The Lakes Lutheran Church in Fairmont as well as the VFW Auxiliary and also volunteered at the Fairmont Community Hospital. During her free time, Giny enjoyed watching Twins baseball, flower gardening, bird watching and sewing.
Left to cherish her memory include: her children, Peter (Allison) Hennager of Fairmont, Minn., Joe Hennager of Granada, Minn., Polly (Liam) Alexander of Sydney, Australia, and David Hennager of Bozeman, Mont.; step-children, Steve (Colleen) Johnson of St. Peter, Minn., Doug (Carolyn) Johnson of Aitkin, Minn., Cass Connelly of Fairmont, Minn., and Shari (Tom) Moore of Rochester, Minn.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Along with her parents Joseph and Helena Bohrer, Giny was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Hennager; husband, Donald Johnson; twin grandchildren, Brenden and Breanna Hennager; sisters, Norma Warning, Barbara Schauer, and Carol Hass; and brothers, Rick Bohrer, and Harold Bohrer.
