Mavis L. Meyer

WELCOME – A Celebration of Life service for Mavis L. Meyer, 91, of Welcome, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sherburn, Minn., with Rev. Steven D. Wilson, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery, Fairmont, Minn.

Mavis was called to her eternal rest on Monday morning, Jan. 6, 2014, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont, Minn. Visitation will be 9:30-11 a.m. Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn.

Mavis Lavila Hollister was born Aug. 9, 1922, in Ocheyedan, Iowa. She was the second of five children to Roy and Blanche (Ogbert) Hollister. Her mother died when she was 5. Mavis was baptized on Oct. 12, 1922, in Ocheyedan and later confirmed on March 26, 1948, as an adult at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. Mavis spent her childhood in Owatonna and later moved to Fairmont, Minn. On Dec. 4, 1947, Mavis was united in marriage to Lewis Meyer at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn by Rev. Gerike. Together they farmed around the Sherburn area until their retirement in 1984 moving into Welcome. Lewis died on Jan. 2, 2007. Mavis was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. She greatly enjoyed sewing, cooking, playing cards and was very fond of cats.

She is survived by her two sons, David Meyer and his wife, Myrna, of Edmond, Okla., and Daniel Meyer of Welcome, Minn.; two grandchildren, Angela Hinkeldey and her husband, James, of Windom, Minn., and Kevin Meyer and his wife, Amanda, of Huntley, Minn.; five great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, brother and sister-in-laws, and other relatives.

Mavis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lewis Meyer; three brothers, Albert, Roy and Wilbur Hollister; sister, Mary; daughter-in-law, Gwen Meyer; and other relatives.
