To the Editor:
It’s about time!?When you hear that someone had a stroke, you picture someone, maybe a dear friend, losing their quality of life from a blood clot in the brain. If you suspect a person is having a stroke, check act F.A.S.T.:
o Face – facial droop or uneven smile;
o Arms – arm numbness or weakness;
o Speech – slurred speech or difficulty in speaking or understanding;
o Time – call 911 and get to a medical facility immediately.
Last week, Pat recognized the signs of a stroke and rushed Joe to the emergency room at Mayo Clinic Health System-Fairmont.
Following an exam and consultation with Rochester, it was determined that Joe did have a stroke and a clot-busting drug was administered. This all had to be done within a certain period of time. The clot was assimilated and Joe was taken to Mankato for more tests and observation.
We have an excellent medical facility in Fairmont, but we must be ready to ACT F.A.S.T – it’s about time!
Thanks to the wonderful care Joe received, he is back home resuming his normal activities.
