Phillip D. Goraczkowski
EAST CHAIN – Funeral services for Phillip D. Goraczkowski, 67, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at East Chain Lutheran Church in East Chain, Minn. Burial will follow the service in the East Chain Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Phillip passed away Thursday morning, Dec. 12, 2013, at his home in East Chain, Minn. Visitation will be 4:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont and one hour prior to services Friday at East Chain Lutheran Church.
Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Phillip David Goraczkowski was born April 14, 1946, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of David and Dolores (Newville) Goraczkowski. He attended school in East Chain and graduated from East Chain High School. Following his graduation, Phil attended the Austin Vocational School in Austin, Minn. On Feb. 28, 1969, Phil was united in marriage to Dolores Johanson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Swea City, Iowa. Together, the couple made their home in Silver Lake Township prior to moving to the acreage just east of East Chain. To this union, three children were born: Arlyn, Brenda, and Chad. Phillip farmed for many years and also worked for Meyer Livestock, Railway Motors, East Chain School and International Ag Labs before retiring in February 2009. In his spare time, Phil enjoyed feeding the birds, tending to his fish pond, working in his garden and looking after his flowers. He loved toys and took pride in his farm toy collection and enjoyed to customize and build farm toys from scratch. Phil also was passionate about woodworking. He treasured time spent with his family and especially looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren. Phil was a member of the Martin County Fair Board and also a member of the East Chain Lutheran Church, where he had served on the church council. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him and called him friend.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Dolores Goraczkowski of East Chain, Minn.; children, Arlyn Goraczkowski and his wife, Lynn, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Brenda Kalous and her husband, Chad, of Elk Grove, Calif., and Chad Goraczkowski and special friend Cherry of Barstow, Calif.; grandchildren, Rylie Goraczkowski, Brendan Kalous, Camden Kalous, Lilyanna Goraczkowski, Noah Goraczkowski and Judah Goraczkowski; brothers, Bruce Goraczkowski and Tom Goraczkowski; sisters, Mary Barvels and her husband, Garry, Ruth Ann Helling and her husband, Gary, Barbara Owen, Pat Steuber and her husband, Kurt, Carol Martin and her husband, Kirt, and Sharon Scheff and her husband, Tony; brother-in-law, Dale Johanson and his wife, Teressa; sisters-in-law, Karen Wegner, Wendy Novak and her husband, Mike; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, David and Dolores Goraczkowski; a sister, Kathy; a brother-in-law, Jerry Wegner; and a nephew, Nate Owen.
