LAKEFIELD – Funeral services for Christine Steffen, 79, of Lakefield, Minn., will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Christine died Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Lakefield. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lakefield, and one hour prior to the services Tuesday.
Arrangements are being handled by Zaharia Family Funeral and Cremation Service of Truman.
Christine Elizabeth Frerichs was born Feb. 2, 1934, in Superior, Iowa, to Fredrick and Elsie (Andresson) Frerichs. She lived with numerous aunts and uncles after her mother died. Christine attended school in Truman and later moved to Estherville, Iowa, where she was a cook. On Nov. 10, 1957, Christine was united in marriage to Lloyd Steffen in Estherville. They lived in Lakefield, Minn., where she remained until her death. Christine was a cook for the Good Samaritan Home in Jackson, Immanuel Lutheran School and Colonial Manor, both in Lakefield. She moved into Colonial Manor in January 2011. Christine was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield. She was also a member of the local Coffee Club. Christine enjoyed coffee, cooking and baking.
Christine is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lloyd Steffen of Lakefield, Minn.; two daughters, Julie Kazemba (Todd) of Gainesville, Fla., and Lynn Davis (Tim) of Fairmont, Minn.; two sons, Martin Steffen (Barbara) of Melrose, Fla., and Lyle Steffen (Debra) of Williston, Fla.; one daughter-in-law, Coleen Enright of West Bend, Wis.; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Edwin Frerichs (Betsy) of Laurens, Iowa, and Marvin Frerichs (Ann) of Eaton, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Roger Steffen; one brother, Allen; and one grandson, Lance Steffen.
