FHS girls squeeze by ’Jays in OT tilt
WASECA – Kristen Campe drilled a clutch 3-pointer with 30 seconds remaining in regulation to help Fairmont force an extra 4-minute session with Waseca during Friday night basketball action in Waseca.
The visiting Cardinals then outscored the Bluejays by a 6-3 margin in the overtime to exit with a 48-45 South Central Conference victory in hand.
Forward Alex Christianson neared double-double territory for Fairmont by posting game-highs of 17 points and nine rebounds to complement four steals.
Campe finished with nine points, Emily Kim supplied eight points and three assists, while Courtney Mosloski chipped in six points and five rebounds.
Kayla Lardy added five points and six rebounds for the Cardinals, who made 13 of 36 shots from 2-point range, 3 of 8 from behind the 3-point arc and 13 of 29 at the free throw line.
Kirstin Simmons scored 14 points, while teammate Mikayla Rolling added 11 for the Bluejays, who hit only 1 of 7 free throws on the game.
Fairmont (2-1, 1-0 SCC) plays host to Windom Area on Tuesday night.
Waseca downed Fairmont, 51-13, during B-squad action Friday night in Fairmont.
Marisa Nelson collected five points and three rebounds for the Cardinals (0-3), Larissa Becker scored four points, Alexis Bass grabbed five boards, while Emily Kloeckner chipped in three steals.
Taylor Crissinger and Mikayla Soelter each scored six points to help guide Fairmont to a 35-17 victory over Waseca during C-squad action Friday night in Waseca.
Brenna Cutler grabbed seven boards, Claire Cutler pocketed four rebounds, while Haley Burmeister garnered six steals.
Martin County West 68, Luverne 31 – Kate Thiesse collected 16 points, seven rebounds and three steals to steer the Mavericks to a 68-31 nonconference victory over the Cardinals on Friday night at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
Madyson Larson contributed 14 points, seven boards and three steals to MCW’s winning effort, while Taryn Tumbleson scored 12 points.
McKenna Taylor grabbed seven rebounds, while Whitney Smith distributed four assists for the Mavericks, who hit 30 of 59 field goals and 6 of 14 free throws on the game.
Martin County West (3-0, 2-0 Valley) travels to St. James on Tuesday night.
Blue Earth Area 54, New Ulm 51 – Paige Darrington neared double-double territory by producing 19 points and nine rebounds to go with three assists to fuel the Bucs’ three-point South Central Conference decision over the Eagles on Friday night in New Ulm.
Kaitlyn Olsen chalked up 14 points, eight rebounds and three steals for Blue Earth Area, while Jenna Stevermer chipped in six points and five steals.
Signe Olson added six points for the Bucs, who connected on 17 of 52 shots from 2-point distance, 2 of 5 behind the arc and 14 of 28 at the free throw line.
Blue Earth Area (1-1, 1-0 SCC) travels to Lake Crystal tonight for a 7:30 p.m. nonconference game.

Mankato Loyola 74, Granada-Huntley-East Chain 43 – Aunikah Bastian delivered a game-best 17 points to top a balanced scoring attack as the Class A, No. 10-ranked Crusaders posted a 74-43 Valley Conference victory over the Mustangs on Friday night at East Chain School.
Lindsey Theuninck and Jordyn Strachan each supplied 12 points for Loyola, while RaeAnn Dose and Annie Nawrocki each tallied 10 points.
Kenlie Pytleski neared double-double territory for GHEC by scoring 13 points and pulling down nine rebounds.
Brooke McDonald chipped in 11 points for the Mustangs, while Rachel Shumski added nine boards.
GHEC made 15 of 48 field goals and 12 of 25 free throws, while Loyola hit 27 of 58 shots from the floor and 15 of 31 at the charity stripe.
Granada-Huntley-East Chain (1-1, 1-1 Valley) travels to Cleveland on Thursday night, while Mankato Loyola (3-0, 2-0) plays host to Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity on Monday night.
St. Clair 59, Martin Luther 46 – Katelyn Weber scored 15 points, while Hailey Embacher supplied 13 points to guide the Cyclones to a 13-point Valley Conference victory over the Knights on Friday night in St. Clair.
Kayley Shoen netted a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds for Martin Luther, while teammate Kristi Oberdieck generated 10 points and eight rebounds.
Alexis Brummond chipped in 10 points for the Knights, who hit 19 of 69 shots from 2-point distance, 3 of 14 behind the arc and 5 of 15 at the free throw line.
