USC nets opening win over B.E. Area
WELLS – United South Central freshman forward Shianne Robertson scored a game-leading 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds to help guide the Rebels to a 55-45 victory over the Blue Earth Area Bucs during nonconference basketball action.
Lauren Allis produced a double-double performance of 11 points and 10 rebounds for USC, while teammate Taylor Schultz netted eight points.
Eryn Eilertson and Tara Bauman each generated six points for the Rebels, who made 14 of 31 shots from 2-point range for 45 percent. USC also sank 6 of 16 attempts from 3-point range for 38 percent, while connecting on 9 of 17 from the free throw line.
Jenna Stevermer generated a double-double performance of 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds to pace Blue Earth Area’s cause.
Paige Darrington garnered 10 points and eight rebounds to near double-double territory for the visiting Bucs, while teammate Shayna Stevermer contributed eight points.
Karli Olsen chipped in six points and a game-best four steals for Blue Earth Area, while teammate Taylor Grandgenett distributed three assists.
The Bucs connected on 16 of 44 shots from 2-point range for 36 percent, made 3 of 16 from 3-point distance and 4 of 13 at the free throw line.
Blue Earth Area (0-1) tips off South Central Conference action by playing host to New Ulm on Friday night.
United South Central (1-0) hits the road to New Richland tonight to face Class 2A, No. 1-ranked New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva.
