Norene Yoshiko (Mizomi) Chipman was born Jan. 5, 1948, in Lanai City, Hawaii, the daughter of Tadashi and Naoko (Sakaue) Mizomi. She attended school in Lanai City and graduated from Lanai High School. Following her graduation, Norene moved to the main land, where she graduated from Mt. Marty College in Yankton, S.D. Norene had a dynamic work history driven by her social nature and desire to help others. While in college, she worked in a hospital as a “candy striper.” After moving to Fairmont, among her favorite positions she counseled children at CER, spent many hours at the Fairmont Area Swimming Pool and the Martin County Ice Arena, where she was able to keep an eye on and spend time with her kids. In her spare time, Norene enjoyed volunteering at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center and attending the sporting events of her children. She was a wonderful cook and baked many goodies to share with her family and friends. Her quiet time was spent working on crossword puzzles, brain teasers, and reading. She was an avid collector including stamps, stuffed bears, coins, and above all photos of her family. Norene loved caring for her many hamsters throughout the years and had a special place in her heart for her five “grand puppies.”

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Mathias Chipman and his wife, Katina of Ramsey, Minn., and Ashley Innes and her husband, George of Houston, Texas; sister, Janet Miyashiro of San Diego, Calif.; a nephew, Lance Miyashiro; niece, Wendy Miyashiro; five grand puppies: Kahlua, Kona, Magoo, Mongo, and Nala; as well as many other family members and friends.

Norene was preceded in death by her parents, Tadashi and Naoko Mizomi; and a brother-in-law, Stanley Miyashiro.
