To the Editor:
The venture for a dog park in Fairmont began in September 2013 at a meeting with the Fairmont Park Board. Research was done and proposals were submitted, leading to a goal of $15,000 for Phase I to build fencing and benches. Much has been gained since.
On Nov. 23-24, the first fundraiser, Holiday Pictures with your Pets, was held. We surpassed our goal by raising $1,008. As promised, Margo Harris matched the first $1,000, making our total contribution $2,008 to the City of Fairmont Dog Park.
This success is primarily due to the eager, encouraging supporters who – despite the cold -?stopped by the Marina Lodge to have outdoor pictures with their pets taken, or to drop off monetary donations.
Credit and a thank you must be given to the businesses and people who made this event possible, including the Marina Lodge for providing the location and staff assistance; Serenade’s by the Lake for providing wood that was burned at the event, keeping everyone warm; Fareway for dog treats; and Chip Pearson for providing his talent and photography services.
The goal to have a dog park built in 2014 continues with additional promotions and fundraisers. For more information, feel free to follow us on the Fairmont Area Dog Park facebook page, email us at email@example.com, or call Beth Haskins (605) 310-2390 or Joe Potter (507) 236-9976 directly. Donations can be made any time to the City of Fairmont Dog Park.
Thank you again, and may the Christmas season bring everyone and their pets happiness and joy.
