Donald W. Weerts
FAIRMONT – Memorial Service for Donald “Bud” W. Weerts, 82, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at Shepherd Of The Lakes Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Inurnment will be in Fairview Memorial Park at a later date. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday. Don passed away Tuesday morning, Nov. 26, 2013, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is in charge of arrangements.
Donald Wayne Weerts was born on Oct. 24, 1931, in Fairmont, Minn. He was the son of Arnold and Margaret (Ludemann) Weerts. He attended Fairmont public schools.
On Sept. 18, 1949, Don was united in marriage to Lorraine Wolter at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont. The couple resided in Fairmont and raised four children, Diana, Danny, Gary and Lonnie. Don and Lorraine shared 64 years together.
Don was employed at 3M in Fairmont for 21 years. He also did work with medical equipment service where he serviced concentrators and oxygen tanks. After retiring from 3M, Don owned and operated Fairmont Fire and Safety for forty two years. When Don and Lorriane were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Don worked there as a custodian for many years. Don and Lorraine later became members of Shepherd of the Lakes Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fairmont, where Don was an usher.
During his free time Don enjoyed fishing and tending to his garden. Don was very devoted to his family and cherished every moment he was able to spend with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Lorraine Weerts of Fairmont, Minn.; grandchildren, Charles Howerter (Donna Willette) of Detroit Lakes, Minn., Chris Howerter (Tom) of Minneapolis, Minn., Chad Wolter of Coon Rapids, Minn., Danette Hoeft (Jeffrey) of Coon Rapids, Minn., Tonya Schmitz of Zumbrota, Minn., Dominick Wolter (Leah) of Coon Rapids, Minn., Melissa Fox of New London, Minn., Daniel Weerts of New London, Minn., and Jeremiah Weerts (Kristin Lamoureaux) of Bismarck, N.D.; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Althea Kuiper of Colorado Springs, Colo., Ralph Weerts (Norma) of Newton, Kan., Donna Weis of Colorado Springs, Colo., and James Weerts (Lynell) of Burbank, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Jeanne Leet (Kenneth) of Waseca, Minn., Linda Dahl (Marlin) of Granada, Minn., and Mollie Wolter of Fairmont, Minn.; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Along with his parents, Arnold and Margaret Weerts, Don was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Harvey Mertz; children, Diana Howerter, Danny Weerts, Gary Weerts, and Lonnie Weerts; son-in-law, Chuck Howerter; brothers-in-law, Dean Wolter, Ralph Kuiper, and Robert Weis; and nephew, Tim Wolter.
