Dennis Keith Whitehead was born Dec. 24, 1941, in Fairmont, Minn., to Keith and Helen (Martens) Whitehead. He grew up on the farm in Fairmont, Minn., and graduated from Welcome High School in 1960. He went on to attend Pillsbury Baptist Bible College in Owatonna, Minn. While attending college, he worked at the Mason Bus Company in Owatonna and the Fairmont Canning Company over the summer months.

He met his wife, Sherry Schoeneweiss, a fellow student, and they married on July 20, 1963. He graduated from Pillsbury in 1964. Dennis then attended Central Seminary in Minneapolis, Minn.

While working toward his Master of Sacred Theology degree, Dr. R. V. Clearwaters asked him to be the General Manager of WCTS Radio in 1968. He graduated from Central Seminary in 1969. Dennis continued as the general manager and helped take the radio studio through many changes and moves which was a great enjoyment for him. He loved playing with new electronic equipment on a regular basis. He offered his knowledge of radio and communication to many churches in the form of improving or repairing public address systems. He retired in 2006 and moved to Maranatha Village in Sebring, Fla. During his “retirement” he taught several semesters of Radio Communications at Clearwater Christian College in Clearwater, Fla.

Dennis was a lifetime NRA member and taught many gun safety classes over the years at camps for youth and his local community. His interest in the rights of hunters and their safety was very important to him. Even more important to him was his family. He and Sherry just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends this past July. Over the years, there were many long weekends spent on Lake Koronis, going back to the family farm for holidays, and summer getaways. They spent many a Thanksgiving in Illinois with Sherry’s family. Some special memories of his grandkids were going with him to his workplace, exploring together on vacations, and his dry jokes. Dennis passed away suddenly on Oct. 25, 2013, in Sebring, Fla.

His memory will be honored and cherished by his wife Sherry Whitehead; two sons, Scott Whitehead and his wife, Joy and their son, Keith of Jordan, Minn., Andrew Whitehead and his sons, Logan and Colin of Waseca, Minn.; one daughter, Lisa Buchanan and her husband, Woody and their son, Royce of Owatonna, Minn. Also, his brother, Bruce (Deborah) Whitehead; and his sister, Janice (Howard) Larson.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Keith and Helen Whitehead.
