Thelma M. Barnes

FAIRMONT – Funeral service for Thelma M. Barnes, 74, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel in Fairmont, with interment in Lakeside Cemetery in Fairmont. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Lakeview Funeral Home.

Thelma passed away Wednesday evening, Oct. 24, 2013, at the Lutz Wing of Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont.

Memorials are preferred to the Salvation Army in Fairmont.

Thelma Mary (Meis) Barnes was born Dec. 28, 1938, in Hoxie, Kansas. She was the daughter of Conrad and Mathilda Meis.

In 1954, Thelma was united in marriage to David “Dave” Butcher in Hoxie, Kansas. The couple resided in Hoxie. Thelma later married Floyd Barnes in Goodland, Kansas. Thelma was a Lieutenant with the Salvation Army where she was an active volunteer. She was known for helping people in any way she was able. During her free time, she enjoyed arts and crafts and was an avid Elvis Presley fan.

Left to cherish her memory include her children, Kevin Butcher (Lelah) of New Port Richey, Fla., Tom Butcher of Fairmont, Minn., Diane Estrada of Tyler, Texas, and Evan Barnes of Spirit Lake, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Annie Wright of Newnan, Ga., and Ida McGrevy (John) of Salina, Kansas; many other relatives and friends.

Along with her parents, Conrad and Mathilda Meis, Thelma is preceded in death by her husband, Dave Butcher; husband, Floyd Barnes; daughter, Barb Hatfield; and siblings, Duane, Gilbert, Lawrence, Roy Dean, and Deloris.
