Betty E. Hiller

FAIRMONT – Services for Betty E. Hiller, 89, of Fairmont, formerly of Granada, Minn., will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Burial will follow the service at Lakeside Cemetery in Fairmont. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Betty passed away Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at her residence in the Woodland Manor in Fairmont, Minn.

Betty Ellen (Olson) Hiller was born April 13, 1924, in Dickey County, N.D., the daughter of Joseph and Hazel (Garrison) Olson. Betty moved with her family to Blue Earth, Minn., where she attended school and graduated from Blue Earth High School.

On Sept. 1, 1946, Betty was united in marriage to Joel Hiller at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth, Minn. Together the couple lived on a farm near Granada, where they were blessed with four children, John, Jolene, Susan and Alice. Betty cherished being on the farm, caring for her children and later her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also worked for many summers at Jolly Green Giant in Blue Earth. Joel passed away in February of 1998 and Betty moved to Fairmont in 2009.

Betty was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and served in the Martha Circle. She also was a member of the East Side Farm Club, Pleasant Prairie Birthday Club, Pleasant Prairie 4-H leader and 4-H council member. Her spare time was spent sewing, quilting, baking and playing cards. Betty treasured time spent with her family.

Left to cherish her memory include four children, John Hiller and his wife, Sharon, of Rochester, Mich., Jolene Flanagan of Fairmont, Susan Wannarka and her husband, Steven, of Blue Earth, Alice Feichtinger and her husband, Robert, of Willmar, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; brother, Orville Olson and his wife, Myrna, of Blue Earth; sisters, Eleanor Stewart of Winnebago, Lois Humburg-Nelson and her husband, Donald, of Harlingen, Texas, Kay Holmseth and her husband, Chuck, of Bricelyn; sister-in-law, Jane Olson of Blue Earth; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Joel, Betty was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Donald Olson; sisters-in-law, Betty Olson and LaRayne Buesing; brothers-in-law, William Humburg and Harry Stewart; and one great-grandson, Michael Feddersen.

Memorials are preferred to the United Hands Hospice program or Grace Lutheran Church.
