Dale A. Schumann

SHERBURN – A Celebration of Life service for Dale A. Schumann, 57, of Fairmont, formerly of Sherburn, Minn., and Buffalo Center, Iowa, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sherburn, Minn., with Rev. Steven D. Wilson, officiating.

Dale was called to his eternal rest on Friday evening, Oct. 18, 2013, at his home in Fairmont, Minn.

Visitation and a time of sharing memories with the Schumann family will be 5-7 p.m. today at Kramer Family Funeral Home in Sherburn.

Dale Alan Schumann was born Sept. 27, 1957, in Buffalo Center, Iowa, to Charles Jr. and Betty Jean (Peregrine) Schumann. He received his education in Waverly, Iowa, until moving to Buffalo Center, Iowa, and graduating with the class of 1976. Dale attended North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC). He then served in the Iowa National Guard and was then employed for Winnebago Industries in Forest City, Iowa. Dale was employed at Casey’s in Buffalo Center, Iowa, until moving to Sherburn, Minn., and starting Casey’s in Sherburn. He operated Casey’s with his family for many years. Dale owned and operated Douglas Transportation and Schumann Limousine Service. On March 30, 1988, he was united in marriage to Cheryl Mattsen Williamson at St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands. After their marriage, they lived in Sherburn. Dale then purchased Century 21 Northland Realty in Fairmont, where he owned and operated it until the time of his death. Dale was an accomplished business owner and entrepreneur. He was very generous and was big-hearted. Dale was very active in establishing the Dale Gardner Space Museum in Sherburn. He was very committed to serving on several community projects as well as on several community boards.

Survivors include his children, Dana (Mike) Whittlinger of Fall Creek, Wis., Heidi (Jeremy) Howard of Fairmont, Minn., Adam (Sonja) Williamson of Sherburn, Minn., and Tucker Schumann of Sherburn, Minn.; six grandchildren, Kyra Williamson, Ryan Whittlinger, Wyatt Williamson, Trevor Whittlinger, Madison Howard and Isaac Howard; mother, Betty Jean Schumann of Fairmont, Minn.; sister, Robin (Bruce) Johnson of Mt. Prospect, Ill. and children, Avery and Maxwell; several aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Junior Schumann, in 1999; grandparents; and other relatives.
