Fairmont outspikes Waseca in SCC clash
WASECA – The Fairmont Cardinals volleyball team was able to avenge its earlier South Central Conference loss at the hands of Waseca, beating the hometown Bluejays, 25-16, 25-23, 22-25, 25-19, on Thursday night in Waseca.
The Bluejays handed the Cardinals a 3-0 league loss on Sept. 12 at Cardinal Gym in Fairmont, leaving Fairmont hoping to return the favor.
Kayla Lardy and Kersten Shantz delivered 15 kills each to pace Fairmont’s hitting performance, while Lardy also recorded a pair of aces from the service line.
Courtney Mosloski added to the multi-dimensional offense for the Cardinals, swatting eight kills on the four-game match.
Setter Emily Kim distributed 35 assists in the win, while serving up a pair of aces from behind the end line.
Sydney Glienke and Kristen Campe backed up the defense for Fairmont, making 28 and 30 digs, respectively.
Fairmont (6-11) faces Southwest Minnesota Christian in the Pipestone Tournament on Saturday in Pipestone.
Madelia 3, Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain 1 – The Blackhawks outlasted the Knights, 25-20, 15-25, 25-22, 25-23, during nonconference volleyball action on Thursday night in Madelia.
Megan Schock recorded team-leading numbers for the visiting Knights by hammering eight kills to complement 21 digs.
Amber Schulz smacked six kills during the match, while adding 16 digs on the defensive side for Martin Luther/ Granada-Huntley-East Chain.
Hunter Payne doled out 21 set assists and scorched four ace serves for the Knights.
Martin Luther/ Granada-Huntley-East Chain (3-13) hosts Madelia in a Valley Conference match at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night in East Chain.
