JCC nips Fairmont in junior varsity tilt
JACKSON?- The Jackson County Central Huskies edged the Fairmont Cardinals, 29-26, during junior varsity football action Thursday in Jackson.
Anthony Garcia caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from halfback Carter Kotewa to open the Cardinals’ scoring effort.
Quarterback Tyler Tennyson then connected with Garcia on a 10-yard scoring strike before finding receiver Nate Johnson on a 14-yard toss into the end zone. Johnson then caught Tennyson’s ensuing pass for a 2-point conversion.
Tennyson then capped his outstanding passing performance by completing a 10-yard spiral to Kale Fritz for the Cardinals’ fourth and final touchdown of the contest.
Tennyson completed 22 of 34 passes for a game-leading 273 yards and three touchdowns.
Garcia topped Fairmont’s receiving core in yardage by netting 113 yards to complement two touchdowns via five catches.
Fritz led the red-and-white offense by garnering seven receptions for 97 yards and one touchdown.
Colton Cunning and Nathan Gillis each supplied fumble recoveries to the Cardinals’ defensive effort, while teammate Jack Waletich delivered a dozen tackles to top the team’s charts.
Fairmont (1-4) plays host to Belle Plaine at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at Mahoney Field in Fairmont.
