Amy Pearl Cheney was born Feb. 20, 1934, in Winnebago, Minn., the daughter of Charles and Clara (Day) Starkweather. She attended school and graduated from Winnebago High School in 1952. Following her graduation, Pearl attended beauty school in Minneapolis and received her license to be a beautician. On May 4, 1957, Pearl was united in marriage to George Cheney at the Presbyterian Church in Winnebago, Minn. To this union four children were born: Marcia, Patrick, Susan and James. Pearl and George made their home in Fairmont and Winnebago before moving to Montana for a short time. They would then return to Fairmont where Pearl owned and operated her own beauty salon for many years before retiring in 1994 and moving to Browerville, Minn., where they enjoyed the scenery and wildlife. In 2008, the couple returned to Fairmont to be closer to family. Pearl was an active person and enjoyed tending to her garden, sewing and quilting. She looked forward to trips and new adventures to places throughout all 50 states and Costa Rica. Pearl had fond memories of camping trips with her children when they were young and she cherished holidays spent with her siblings in Oklahoma, Florida, and Missouri. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fairmont and also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she served as past president.
