Martin Co. West upends No. 9 Windom

WINDOM – Middle hitter Kate Thiesse delivered 15 kills to help the Martin County West Mavericks outslug the Class A, No. 9-ranked Windom Area Eagles in a four-game nonconference volleyball match on Monday night in Windom.

The Mavericks downed the Eagles, 25-20, 26-24, 20-25, 25-16, respectively.

Thiesse also produced four blocks, eight digs and two service aces, while teammates McKenna Taylor and Reilly Geistfeld contributed nine kills each to MCW’s balanced attack. Taylor and Geistfeld also notched two blocks and one rejection, respectively.

Jordan Gregory and Hailey Leiding each pounded out eight kills for the high-octane Mavericks, with Gregory chipping in three service aces and one block.

Setter Kennedy Janssen distributed 44 assists for MCW to complement six digs and one ace serve, while defensive specialists Molly Klima, Autumn Smith and Haley Jensen delivered eight, eight and seven digs, respectively. Klima also served up four aces, while Smith added one service ace.

Martin County West (11-4, 4-0 Valley) plays host to Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Trimont.

Jackson County Central 3, Fairmont 0 – The Class AA, No. 8-ranked Huskies coasted to a 25-11, 25-5, 25-21 nonconference victory over the Cardinals on Monday night in Jackson.

Kayla Lardy and Kersten Shantz each generated four kills to top Fairmont’s offensive attack, while Haley Harder connected on 7 of 7 serves to produce one ace.

Emily Kim distributed 12 set assists for the Cardinals, Sydney Glienke collected 12 digs, while Tieryn Arens added a solo block.

Fairmont (3-9, 2-3 South Central) returns to conference action tonight when it travels to St. James.
