BANNING, Calif. – Celebration of Life services for Gladys Larsen, 97, of Banning, Calif., formerly of Fairmont, will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Lakeview Funeral Home, Fairmont. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont.
Gladys passed away Aug. 25, 2013, in Banning Calif.
Gladys was born Nov. 22, 1915, in Harlen, Iowa, to the late Mr. and Mrs. John Vogen. They moved to Fairmont where Gladys attended school. On Dec. 25, 1934, she married Elvin Larsen. Gladys and Elvin owned the Prairie Avenue grocery store in the 1940s-1950s. Gladys managed the store while raising their three sons. She retired briefly after they closed the store in 1958. She was soon lured back into retail sales and worked at Hilstead’s drug store, downtown, for nearly 20 years. Gladys and Elvin moved to California in 1997 to be closer to their three sons.
Survivors include: two sons, Roger and Dennis; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband, Elvin; son, Donald; sisters, Mavis Marquart and Junis Riegel; and brother, Olaf Vogen.
