MCW goes 1-3 at JCC invitational

JACKSON – The Martin County West Mavericks volleyball team went 1-3 at the Jackson County Central Invitational tournament on Saturday.

Minneota downed the Mavericks 25-7, 25-22 before Rochester Mayo hung on to win 25-17, 26-24 in the second round of the tournament.

The Mavericks won by forfeit over Westbrook-Walnut Grove in the third round, before Windom beat Martin County West 25-21, 25-15.

No individual stats were reported.

Martin County West (8-4, 2-0 Valley) travels to Fairmont for a rescheduled nonconference game at 7:30 p.m. today at Cardinal Gym.

Spirit Lake Invite

The North Union Warriors volleyball team went 0-2 at the Spirit Lake Tournament on Saturday.

Okoboji downed the Warriors 21-13, 21-13 in the first round, before Sheldon topped North Union 21-13, 21-16.

North Union senior Madison Bollig recorded four kills and three digs against Okoboji, while junior Autumn Boland made six digs and served up four aces.

Junior Emily Hagebock warmed up with two kills, two digs and one block in the first match, before smacking three kills and making five digs against Sheldon in the second round.

Warrior sophomore Sarah Rolling had a team-leading five kills, seven digs, one block and an ace serve against Sheldon, while senior Jordan Guerdet made 11 digs.

North Union (7-13) travels to West-Bend Mallard for a 7:30 p.m. game on Tuesday.
