Jerome J. Von Feldt

FAIRMONT – Funeral services for Jerome J. Von Feldt, 71, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church, Fairmont, with interment in Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont.

Jerry passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at his home in Fairmont surrounded by his family. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at Lakeview Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. Memorials are preferred to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society ( or the Hope Lodge in Rochester.

Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jerome Joseph Von Feldt was born Jan. 27, 1942, in Austin, Minn., the son of John and Rose (Bedard) Von Feldt. After brief moves to Buffalo and Osakis, the family moved to Hibbing in 1946. Jerry graduated from Hibbing High School in 1960. After high school, Jerry went to work for National Cash Register. On Jan. 11, 1964, Jerry was united in marriage to Elizabeth Banidt at St. Pius Catholic Church in Rochester, Minn. The couple moved to Mankato, before moving to Fairmont in 1966. This union was blessed with two sons, Jerry and Randy. Jerry and Liz spent 49 years together.

Jerry continued working for National Cash Register until 1979. He then became a broker for the John G. Kinnard and Company. Jerry owned the Triangle Drive-Inn for several years. He joined the Fairmont Ambulance Service in 1973, and continued there for 16 years. For 15 of those years, he was also an EMT instructor for Jackson Vocational Technical College. In 1989, Jerry decided he wanted to see the United States and began driving truck. He drove for Holiday Express, Northern Valley Transfer and various other companies until fully retiring in 2011. Jerry was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont as well as the Fairmont Jaycees, Lions Club, Rotary Club and Fairmont Chamber of Commerce. He also volunteered as a visitor for Fairmont Hospice. During his free time, Jerry enjoyed socializing and playing guitar and piano. His last musical performance was at Dylan Days in Hibbing during open mic session in May of this year. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Later in life, Jerry and Liz traveled around the world during a five-year period of remission.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Elizabeth Von Feldt of Fairmont, Minn.; sons, Jerry (Sheri) Von Feldt of Fairmont, Minn., and Randy (Alex) Von Feldt of Portola Valley, Calif.; grandchildren, Kaylea and Logan Von Feldt of Fairmont, Minn., and Jack and Oliver Von Feldt of Portola Valley, Calif.; siblings, Jack (Bev) Von Feldt of Apple Valley, Minn., Francis (Joyce) Von Feldt of Bothell, Wash., Ted (Rita) Von Feldt of Dallas, Texas, Judy (Henry) O’Neil of Roseville, Minn., and Dan (Jane) Von Feldt of Lancaster, Wis.; step-mother, Adeline Von Feldt of Rochester, Minn.; half-sisters, Barb (Mike) Ewer of Clear Lake, Iowa, and Linda (Dana) Hyberger of Rochester, Minn.; half-brother, Jeff (Elaine) Von Feldt of Orono, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Gayle (Tom) O’Reilley of Minnetonka, Minn., and Diane Ringeisen of Redwing, Minn.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Along with his parents, John and Rose Von Feldt, Jerry was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ray and Ardis Banidt; and sister-in-law, Audrey Von Feldt.
