B.E. Area tennis lineup shuts out Martin Co. West

SHERBURN – The Blue Earth Area Bucs girls tennis lineup continued its torrid winning streak by sweeping the Martin County West Mavericks, 7-0, during a rare Wednesday dual meet in Sherburn.

The stifling heat index forced the two non-league teams to start each set of each match at 2 games apiece to speed up the overall meet.

Karli Olsen and Natali Fellows triggered the visiting Bucs’ sweep of the doubles bracket by posting a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Alisa Russenberger and Ily Schlenk at the No. 1 spot in the lineup.

Beka Krussow and Paige Darrington netted a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 victory over Bailey Ebeling and Hailey Holtz at No. 2 doubles, while Blue Earth Area’s Kali Viland and Lacey Benz posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Madi Ebeling and Brooke Forstrom at third doubles.

Kaitlyn Olsen outslugged the Mavericks’ Shawna Dressen, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3), at No. 2 singles, while the Bucs’ Lindsey Prokop downed Tori Russenberger at the third spot in the singles bracket, 6-4, 6-2.

Anikka Wilhelmi defeated Sophie Bareiss at fourth singles, 6-2, 6-4, while Karleigh Wolff netted an injury default from Stephanie Zerres at No. 1 singles, with their match knotted at 5-all.

Blue Earth Area (6-1) plays host to Maple River at 9:30 a.m. today at Schroeder Courts in Blue Earth.

Martin County West (0-2) is idle until playing host to Maple River on Thursday, Sept. 5, in Sherburn.
