ML/GHEC outspikes Dragons

ADRIAN – The Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain Knights outspiked the Adrian Dragons, 3-2, during season-opening volleyball action on Monday night in Adrian.

The hometown Dragons claimed the opening game 25-21 before the Knights countered with a 25-14 victory in Game 2.

Adrian posted a 25-22 win in Game 3 before ML/GHEC answered with a 25-18 triumph in Game 4 to force a decisive Game 5.

The Knights outslugged the Dragons, 16-14, to claim the victory.

Hitter Rachel Shumski produced 10 kills and five ace blocks to top ML/GHEC; teammate Amber Schulz generated 10 kills, 16 digs and five ace serves; while setter Hunter Payne doled out 23 assists.

Martin Luther/Gran-ada-Huntley-East Chain (1-0) travels to Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s tonight for another nonconference match.
