Marvin W. Bicknase
FAIRMONT – Funeral services for Marvin W. Bicknase, 84, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Fairmont. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont.
Marvin passed away Tuesday evening, Aug. 20, 2013, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at Lakeview Funeral Home, Fairmont, and will continue one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Fairmont is in charge of arrangements.
Marvin Walter Louis Bicknase was born April 13, 1929, to Rudolph and Dora (Nassen) Bicknase. He was born and raised on a farm in Fraser Township. Marvin was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Welcome and he attended District 64 country school. On Jan. 29, 1950, he was united in marriage to Elnora Holz. Marvin worked for Nelson Ice Cream and then, in 1958, he began farming. He sold seed corn and soybeans for Super Cross and was currently working for Na-Churs Plant Food. He was very active in St. John’s United Church of Christ and served as an elder. He was the president of Martin Co. N.F.O. Marvin enjoyed playing the concertina at all different occasions for many years and seeing the many happy faces when he played. He also loved going back to the farm and helping out where ever he could. Marvin entered the Truman Senior Living in December 2012.
Those who will cherish his memory include his wife, Elnora Bicknase of Fairmont; eight children, Rev. Keith Bicknase and his wife, Becky of Milbank, S.D., Steven Bicknase and his wife, Ann of Mesa, Ariz., Kathleen Gundersen and her husband, Dr. Mark Gundersen of Fergus Falls, Minn., Douglas Bicknase and his wife, Lorna of Fairmont, Diane Benson and her husband, David of Stewart, Minn., Alan Bicknase of Fairmont, Joann Bicknase of Rochester, and James Bicknase of Mankato, Minn.; son-in-law, Robert Riess of Brainerd; 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister-in-law, Esther Bicknase; brother-in-law, Norbert Hines; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Dora Bicknase; one daughter, Cynthia Riess; brothers, Raymond Bicknase and wife, Janice, and Rudy Bicknase; a sister, Irene Bicknase; and Elnora’s five brothers and three sisters.
