Robert ‘Bob’ Tyson

TRUMAN – Robert “Bob” Tyson, a former Truman resident, died unexpectedly Friday, July 5, 2013, while doing maintenance work on a Shawnee National Forest trail near his home in Murphysboro, Ill.

He was born Sept. 23, 1943, in Truman, the son of Robert and Helen (Kuether) Tyson.

He married the former Kay Anderson on June 4, 1965, and she survives.

Robert was an outings leader for the Sierra Club. He was a Shawnee National Forest volunteer, an AARP driver safety instructor, and was active at Church of the Good Shepherd United Church of Christ in Carbondale, Ill.

He graduated from Truman High School and from Augsburg College in Minneapolis. He was employed by the Illinois Department of Employment Security, retiring after 28 years with the agency.

In addition to his wife, Kay, he is survived by a son, Bradley Tyson of Mt. Vernon, Ill.; two brothers, Keith (Barbara) Tyson of Mankato, Minn., and Richard Tyson (Dayle Mandelson) of Menomonie, Wis.; an uncle, Donald Kuether of Mountain Home, Ark.; an aunt, Irene Tyson of Fairmont; six nieces and nephews, and several cousins and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services were held Saturday, Aug. 3, at Church of the Good Shepherd, Carbondale, Ill.
