Donald L. Owens

FAIRMONT – Funeral services for Donald L. Owens, 94, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, at the United Methodist Church, Fairmont. Burial with full military honors by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and the Martin Co. V.F.W. Post 1222 will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont.

Donald passed away Thursday evening, Aug. 1, 2013, at the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service is handling the arrangements for the family.

Donald LeRoy Owens was born July 13, 1919, in Imogene, Minn., the son of Frank and Bertha (Schleininger) Owens. Don attended District 23 school in Imogene. In 1942, he entered the U.S. Army and served during WW II. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and returned to Martin County. He was united in marriage to Mary Bassett on Sept. 17, 1947, at the United Methodist Church in Fairmont. Don worked at Stokley Van Camp and Picsweet driving a towmotor and retired in 1989. Mary passed away on Aug. 8, 1998, and in 2007, Don moved into the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fairmont and enjoyed going to coffee with his friends. He is survived by one brother-in-law, Dean and Sharon Bassett of Fairmont; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; seven brothers and sisters.
