CHANDLER, Ariz. – Celebration of Life services for Robert Schmitz, 56, of Chandler, Ariz., formerly of St. James, will be held at a later date.
Robert passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013.
Robert Schmitz was born April 22, 1957, in St. James, son of Gene and Darlene Schmitz. He was a hard worker all his life, starting with a paper route and working at Ron’s Market as a carryout at age 16. He moved to Arizona in 1980 and worked for Bashas’ as a warehouseman for 31 years. He was diagnosed with Synovial Sarcoma in December 2004, when his son was in sixth grade. Bob set a goal to live and see his son Nick graduate; he made that by 2 1/2 years.
He is survived by the family that he loved: his wife of 28 years, Rebecca, of whom he often said her love and care was the reason he survived the cancer for so long; his son, Nicholas Robert, who was his pride and joy and the reason he fought so hard to live; the family dog, Mike, who was his buddy and kept him company after he became disabled and was by his side when he passed; his dad, Gene of Lewisville, Minn.; sisters, Deb (Craig) Lehmann of St. James, Minn., and Midge (Doug) Sieg of Truman, Minn.; brother, Butch Schmitz of St. James, Minn.; brother-in-law, Mark Peil of Maplewood, Minn.; sister-in-law, Susan (Dave) Blubaugh of Sumner, Wash.
He was embraced in heaven by his mom, Darlene.
He was loved and he made sure that everyone knew how much he loved them.
Bob’s chosen charity is Make a Wish Foundation.
