Truman Days set for weekend

TRUMAN – Truman Days organizer Barb Mager has gone through the list.

All-city garage sale fliers ready? Check. Little Miss/Mr. Truman program prepared? Check. Entertainment in the park lined up? Check. Petting zoo lined up? Check.

“We are ready for company,” she declares.

Truman Days begins today with storytime and activities for children at 3 p.m. at the library, and will continue through Sunday’s softball tournament.

All the traditional activities are slated, with garage sale start times and maps directing visitors to 61 garage sales, a vintage tractor ride beginning 7:30 a.m. Friday and the parade with 130 units to be held at 5 p.m. Saturday.

New this year is an 81-foot zip line located at the school. It is enclosed in an inflatable, so anyone who falls will be caught in a net and lowered to a soft surface.

“There is really no way to get hurt,” Mager said.

The zip line will be located near the pool and softball fields, and is only available Friday from 3-7 p.m.

Mager said it is something children through adults can enjoy.

“It is an event that we thought would be fun,” she said.

Food vendors, music in the park, vendors and activities will take place throughout the day Saturday.

“There are all kinds of things,” Mager said. “People won’t go hungry in Truman or lack anything to do.”

Mager said thousands of out-of-towners flood the city for the events.

“We get the southern third of Minnesota,” she said. “We have 3,000 garage sale fliers, and they go fast.”
