‘Bago/BE slides by Jackson in districts
MILROY – Carter Hanson and Seth Anderson hammered home runs, while right-hander Brady Anderson fired a three-hit complete-game gem to propel Winnebago American Legion Post 82/Blue Earth Post 89 to an opening 5-2 victory over Jackson Post 130 during district tournament action on Friday at Irish Yard.
Winnebago/Blue Earth (14-3) faces the winner between Springfield and St. James at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Milroy Park in Milroy during second-round play in the Division II, 2nd District event.
Brady Anderson allowed two runs – both in the bottom of the second inning – on three hits in seven innings to earn the win for WBE. Anderson recorded seven strikeouts and issued three walks.
Hanson smacked his two-run round-tripper during WBE’s four-run offensive explosion in the top of the first.
Seth Anderson connected on a solo home run and a double to complement scoring a pair of runs for WBE.
David Franta and Dallas Barslou each supplied two hits for Posts 82/89, with Franta crossing the plate once. Brandyn Olsen chipped in a single and a run scored, while Brady Anderson and Quinn Huisman each added hits.
Taylor Christopher and Jeremiah Flatgard each doubled for Jackson, while Tanner Menke added a single.
Christopher allowed five runs on 10 hits, struck out three and did not issue a walk in seven innings of work to receive the losing decision for Post 130.
Jackson faces the loser between Springfield and St. James in an 11 a.m. elimination game today at Irish Yard in Milroy.
