Stephen H. Gilbertson

FAIRMONT – A memorial gathering for Stephen H. Gilbertson, 63, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 12, at Lincoln Park in Fairmont.

Stephen passed away Tuesday morning, July 9, 2013, at his home in Fairmont surrounded by his family.

Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Stephen Howard Gilbertson was born Jan. 28, 1950, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Marlin and Kathryn (Smith) Gilbertson. He moved with his family to California in 1959. On Feb. 19, 1969, he entered the U.S. Army and served as a helicopter crew chief. He was honorably discharged in 1971 and returned to California. In July of 1976, he moved to Fairmont. He worked for Toro and then Fairmont Glass and Sign. On March 26, 1982, he married Mary Ann Burm. Steve worked for REM as a direct care provider for 30+ years. Recently, he had to retire because of his ill health. Steve loved to work with stained-glass windows, woodworking, scrapping with his son and enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Gilbertson of Fairmont; daughter, Rebekah Crissinger and her husband, Calvin, of Albert Lea; son, Jeffrey Gilbertson of Fairmont; grandchildren, Lillian and Ethan Crissinger; step-grandson, Christopher Crissinger; mother, Kathryn Gilbertson Tow of Fairmont; one brother, Jim Gilbertson and his wife, Dawn of Brandon, S.D.; three sisters, Kristine Gilbertson of Fairmont, Kathy Sukalski and her husband, Jerry, of Fairmont, and Karen Zwiefel of Swea City, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marlin Gilbertson; and two step-fathers, Lou Toye and Donald Tow.
