Post 36 splits twinbill with Mankato
MANKATO – The Fairmont American Legion Post 36 baseball team managed to split a doubleheader with Mankato American, winning 3-2 in Game 1 before falling 4-3 in the second game on Monday night in Mankato.
Levi Becker had a pair of hits to lead Post 36’s offensive effort, driving in two RBIs, including the eventual game-winning run in Game 1.
Jordan Voss added two hits, including a double, and scored a run, while Ryan Noll smacked a double for Fairmont. Matt Lytle added a sacrifice fly to Fairmont’s winning effort.
Jay Ruen pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on two hits, striking out three and walking three to earn the win for Post 36.
Spencer Chirpich pitched the final 1/3 of an inning, giving up one hit to earn the save.
Andrew Sweene had a pair of hits, while Drew Quame and Lee Marksen each scored runs for Mankato American. Pat Rohlfing had a pair of RBI singles, plating both American runs.
Mark Korteum pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out three and walking three to earn a no-decision.
Jordan Grams pitched the final 2/3 innings, giving up one run on one hit and walking one to take the loss.
Grams then turned around and scored two runs and pounded two hits, including a double, to lead American to a 4-3 win in Game 2.
Quame added two hits, including a double, and knocked one run for Mankato.
Chirpich connected for three hits and scored a run, while Noll delivered three singles, along with an RBI, to Fairmont’s efforts.
Brad Kunz pitched four innnings, giving up two runs on seven hits, walking one and hitting one batter for the no-decision for American.
Marksen pitched the final three innings, holding Fairmont to just one run on two hits, walking two and striking out one to earn the win.
Levi Becker also contributed two hits for Fairmont.
Voss pitched six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, striking out seven and walking three to earn a no-decision.
Christian Petschke pitched the final inning, allowing one run, walking one, striking out one and hitting one batter to absorb the loss.
Fairmont (7-4) plays host to Sleepy Eye Post 7 in an 8 p.m. game Thursday at Herb Wolf Field.
