Warriors blank Cougars

BANCROFT – North Union junior Cody Runskmeier exploded at the plate, going 4-for-5 including a triple, driving in three RBIs and scoring a pair of runs to lead the Warriors to a 10-0 six-inning win over the Manson-Northwest Webster Cougars on Wednesday in Bancroft.

While Cody Runksmeier was powering the North Union offense, Warriors’ senior hurler Sawyer Doocy pitched six innings, giving up just two hits, striking out 11 and walking three to earn the shut out victory.

Cody Runksmeier had just under half of the Warriors nine hits in the win, with Colin Runksmeier, Garrett Johnson, Spencer Ricke, Brandon Kollasch and Jake Govern adding the other hits.

Colin Runksmeier drove in an RBI with a hit along with Ricke, while Johnson scored twice and drove in an RBI.

Kollasch had three RBIs for the Warriors in the win, scoring once, and Govern scored with his lone hit of the game.

Freshman pitcher Dylan Samuelson pitched two innings for the Cougars, giving up three runs – one earned – on four hits, striking out two and walking two to take the loss.

Mitch Rosendahl pitched one inning, striking out the side in relief, before Braden Moser and Connor Hokinson closed out the game for the Cougars. Rosendahl gave up four runs on one hit and walked three, while Hokinson allowed three runs on four hits and walked two.

North Union (21-8) plays host to Forest City in a 7:30 p.m. game on Monday in Bancroft.

Fairmont Post 1222 5, Blue Earth Post 4580 1 – The Fairmont VFW Post 1222 surged for four runs in the final two inning to down Blue Earth Post 4580 5-1 on Wednesday in Blue Earth.

Clayton Maakestad pitched five innings, giving up just one run – none earned – on three hits, walking three and striking out two to earn the win.

Jack Waletich had a pair of hits, including a double to drive in two RBIs to help pace Fairmont’s offensive efforts.

Nathan Gillis had a pair of hits, including a double to add to the effort.

Maakestad drove in an RBI on his one hit in the game, with Matt Lytle, Cole Emler and Zach Ramos each adding one hit in the win.

Lytle pitched the final two innings, giving up two hits, walking one and striking out one in relief.

Fairmont (5-6) plays host to New Ulm Silver in a 6 p.m. game on Monday in Fairmont.
