Warriors’ win streak snapped

FT. DODGE – The Class 2A, No. 2-ranked North Union softball team traded a pair of games against top-ranked opponents at the Fort Dodge tournament on Friday.

The Warriors downed Class 4A, No. 14 ranked Webster City 9-5, before Class 5A, No. 6 ranked Ankeny handed them a 10-1 loss.

The North Union lumber exploded for four home runs in their 9-5 win over the Lynx in the first game.

Dena Looft smacked a pair of round-trippers, a solo shot and a two-run homer, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs from the plate.

Sarah Rolling notched a solo home run in the second, while Allie Ingalls added a solo shot in the fourth for the Warriors.

Ingalls, who went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs, also pitched six innings, gave up five runs – four earned – on seven hits and struck out nine to earn the win.

Autumn Boland and Jasmine Clausen each added doubles to the potent Warrior offense.

The Class 5A, No. 6-ranked Hawks then handed the Warriors their first loss of the season, scoring six runs in the third and three in the sixth to take the 10-1 win in the second game.

Autumn Boland hit a solo home run for the Warriors’ lone run of the game, while Clausen went 2-for-3 from the plate.

The Warriors’ Peyton Oleson pitched six innings to take the loss.

North Union (15-1) plays host to West Bend-Mallard in a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader today in Swea City.
