BLUE EARTH – Dorothy Schwen, age 92, of Blue Earth died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Mapleton Community Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at 11 a.m., at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Blue Earth, with Father Tim Biren officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Blue Earth. Visitation time will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, at Patton Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 400 E. 14th Street in Blue Earth. Dorothy Schwen, daughter of A.G. and Laura (Anderman) Muth was born November 14, 1920, in Fairmont. Dorothy grew up in Fairmont and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1938. She married Thomas R. Schwen on Feb. 26, 1939, they lived in Blue Earth since then. Thomas died in 1986. Dorothy worked at the Blue Earth Valley Telephone Co. as an operator for more than 20 years prior to working at Telex Company for 20 years, retiring in 1989. She was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, the Winona Council of Catholic Women and the Catholic Daughters or America.
She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Food Shelf, United Hospital coffee shop and Interfaith Caregivers.
Survivors include one son, Thomas (Emilie) Schwen of Bloomington, Indiana; six grandchildren, Michelle Moore, Jessica Aikin, Michael Towles-Schwen, Sarah Schwen, Melissa Ryan, Christine Schwen; twelve great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Maxine Virnig of Minneapolis; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two daughters, Marilyn in 1940, and Kathleen Moore in 1971; and two brothers, Robert and Walter Muth; and three sisters, Alice Day, Lucille Thompson and Helen Hinrich.
