Mildred J. Kooiman

LIVINGSTON, Texas – A gravesite memorial service for Mildred J. Kooiman, 85, formerly of Granada, was held May 14, 2013, in Woodlawn Cemetery, Houston, Texas. She was buried near her son Daniel.

Mildred passed away on Friday, May 10, 2013 at Pine Ridge Healthcare Center in Livingston, Texas.

Mildred Jean (Gilbertson) Kooiman was born July 17, 1927, in Slayton, Minn., to John and Mamie Gilbertson. She attended school in Chandler, Minn. On June 22, 1942, she was united in marriage to Elmer Kooiman of Edgerton, Minn. Millie and her husband Elmer, served as missionaries in Aguascalientes, Mexico, for over 37 years. They were blessed to start over 70 churches while in Mexico. Prior to going to Mexico, they started a Spanish-speaking congregation in Guckeen, Minn.

Survivors include: daughters, Carol (Marvin) Struiksma of Artesia, Calif., Mary Ann (Ernie) Adams of Eagle Lake, Minn., and Penny (Victor) Juarez of Houston, Texas; sons, Larry (Barbara) Kooiman of Downey, Calif., James (Debra) Kooiman of Livingston, Texas, and Daniel (Adela) Kooiman of Houston, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren, four great great-grandchildren; and one brother, Roland (Joyce) Gilbertson of Hood River, Ore.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Daniel; and 11 siblings.
