Glen Edward Klocke

LEDYARD, Iowa – Funeral services for Glen Edward Klocke, 91, of Ledyard, Iowa, will be Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Swea City, Iowa, with Pastor Rusty Bailey, officiating. Interment is in Highland Home Cemetery, Ledyard. Military graveside rites will be performed by Matzener and Estle American Legion Post of Ledyard.

Glen passed away Friday, May 17, 2013, at his home in Ledyard.

Henry-Olson Funeral Home, Swea City, is in charge of arrangements.

Glen Edward Klocke was born Aug. 3, 1921, in Lakota, Iowa, the son of August Carl and Pauline Katherine (Christ) Klocke. Glen was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lakota on Aug. 14, 1921. He was confirmed June 9, 1935. He received his education in the Lakota schools, graduating from Lakota High School in 1940. He also attended Wartburg College. Glen enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in February 1941, and served in World War II. Following his honorable discharge from military service in June 1945, he returned home. On Feb. 14, 1948, Glen was united in marriage to Lorraine Elsie Soderberg at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bancroft, Iowa. Following their marriage, the couple lived on the family farm in Ledyard, where they raised their family and farmed. In his leisure time for hobbies, Glen enjoyed gardening, playing cards, fur trapping and attending local sporting events. Most important to Glen was spending time with his family and friends. Lorraine passed away Feb. 9, 2006. Glen was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lakota and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bancroft and Swea City. Glen was also a member of Matzener and Estle American Legion in Ledyard.

Left to cherish Glen’s memory are his children, Eugenia Squier of Fresno, Calif.; Craig Klocke and his wife, Denise, of Kellogg, Iowa; Joel Klocke of Ledyard; and Sheryl McDonald and her husband, Marlon, of Tremont, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Michael and his wife, Rebecca; Steven; Tony; Tara; Megan; Erin; Connor; and Tyler; two great-grandchildren, Grace Harper Squier and Griffin Michael Squier; and brother, Marvin Klocke.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents; wife; infant siblings, Nora and Ervin; brother, Walter Klocke; sisters, Verna Schwarz and Luella Klocke Smith.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials.
