Jayhawks leash Bulldogs; Knights win

MADELIA – The Madelia/Truman Jayhawks pounded out 21 hits to rout the Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton Bulldogs, 19-1, during a five-inning nonconference softball game on Wednesday in Madelia.

Brianna Stevensen went 3-for-3 with a double to generate a game-leading six RBIs for the Jayhawks, while Savannah Stevens went 4-for-4, including a two-run home run during a nine-run second inning.

Abagail Eldridge went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and scored three runs for M/T, while teammate Melody Colon went 3-for-4 with a triple.

Taylor Thomas hurled a two-hit complete-game gem for the Jayhawks. Thomas allowed only one run, struck out two and issued one walk in five frames to earn the win.

Madelia/Truman (5-10, 2-6 Valley) travels to Alden today for a 4:30 p.m. conference game.

Prep Baseball

Martin Luther/GHEC/Truman 10, Maple River 9 – Alex Weihe delivered the go-ahead RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning to propel the Knights to a 10-9 Valley Conference baseball victory over the Eagles on Wednesday in Northrop.

Josh Wolter collected three of the Knights’ 16 hits and scored three runs, while Dylan Petrowiak produced two hits, one RBI and crossed the plate three times.

Dustin DeBell singled, doubled and drove in three runs for ML/GHEC/Truman, Jeremy Smith generated two RBIs on two hits and scored two runs, Chandler Greier tallied three hits, while Colton Greiner chipped in one hit and two RBIs.

Petrowiak worked a hitless and scoreless top of the seventh inning to earn the victory. Smith started on the hill and allowed six runs – three earned – on nine hits, struck out two and walked one in four frames to receive no decision.

Greiner gave up three runs – two earned – on three hits in two innings of relief for the Knights.

Mike Lewis went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and one RBI to top the Eagles’ 12-hit effort, Jake Huber collected three hits and two RBIs, while Ben Larson went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Krengel allowed seven runs on 11 hits, struck out one and walked one in four innings. Larson gave up three runs on five hits and fanned two in two innings of relief to take the loss.
