Cardinals ground Hawks
FAIRMONT – Fairmont senior Josh Baldus claimed meet medalist honors for the second time this season, carding a nine-hole round of 41 to pace the Cardinals to a 186-196 nonconference golf victory over the Hermantown Hawks on Friday at Interlaken Golf Club.
Baldus managed three pars to complement a birdie on the par-5 No. 2 to pace the Cardinals’ second outing of the season.
Carter Welchlin fired a pair of pars to his round of 45, while Cole Huinker scored a 49 with one par for Fairmont.
Joe Nordquist completed the Cardinals’ counting totals with a two-par round of 51.
Marcus Wiebe and Derrick Hohensee rounded out the Cardinals’ effort with rounds of 54.
Derek O’Brien led the Hawks’ scoring effort with a two-par round of 48, while teammates Josh Becks and Dylan Kolquist each scored rounds of 49.
Drake Cox completed the Hawks’ counting scores with a 50. Parker Simons and Matt Miller rounded out the Hawks’ effort with scores of 51 and 57, respectively.
Fairmont hosts the Cardinal Invite, which is set to tee off at noon today at Interlaken Golf Club.
